Coconuts are another tropical fruit that can be very healthy for people who eat it. The hard-shelled fruit that is white on the inside is often eaten in desserts, foods, and the water that is naturally found in coconuts is often drank as coconut juice as well.
Coconuts have been linked to helping prevent obesity as they might help speed up metabolism. The high amount of fiber in the fruit is also very good for the digestive system. Coconut health benefits aside from these includes being a good source of manganese and a decent source of iron, phosphorus, and potassium. There are also trace amounts of calcium, magnesium, and zinc in the coconut.
The fruit is rich in protein, making it a good choice for body builders and those who need protein to stay in health. Other benefits include lauric acid which is found in coconuts and can help fight bacteria and infections in the body. Coconut water also helps kidney and bladder function.
One of the drawbacks of coconuts is a high amount of saturated fat, which is not a health benefit. Most of these saturated fats are in the lauric acid though, so it is really a trade-off.
