Why fast food is bad for you

Fast food is bad for you because the ingredients used are often of very low quality and have lot nutritional value. Fast food is usually so cheap because the ingredients used are bought in bulk and for low prices meaning they are often of bad quality which can be unhealthy in some cases. Specifically, many fast food items have a lot of fat, sugar, and oil and very little vitamins and minerals. These things might make food taste good in the short term, but they are more likely to make you feel bad in the long run and probably don’t taste as good as fresh, nutritious alternatives, especially not on a daily basis (they do have occasional appeal though). Because of the fat, oil, butter, etc. fast food is often very high is calories and it can take a lot of extra exercise or work to burn those calories off. This is one of the main reasons fast food is bad for you. Unfortunately, many people end up not burning off those extra calories and as a result suffer from being overweight and possibly eventually obesity. Obesity and being overweight both increases the risks of many diseases several fold including diabetes and heart disease. These diseases can be life-threatening if not controlled and they can be very expensive to deal with in several regards.

Fast food is often a convenient choice which is why it is popular, but it should really be eaten only sparingly. The fried foods are very bad for your body and can raise bad cholesterol levels (LDL to be specific [as opposed to good cholesterol which is HDL]) and potentially clog arteries over the long run. Also, the quality of the food is low so it isn’t the most organic or best quality food to eat. What is even worse is when busy parents feed their children unhealthy fast food on a regular basis, which often leads to habits in those kids when they grow up that lead them to eat a lot of fast food. Fast food should really only be given to children sparingly as even aside from the poor nutritional value, it can lead to longer term bad habits.

It is really about taking care of your body and it might take a few extra minutes a day or a little more money, but healthy options are available. Thankfully even some fast food places are starting to offer healthier options as people get more health conscious, but you should know what is and is not good at these places. Sometimes unhealthy foods end up being disguised as healthy ones through words like “salad” even if they still might contain a very high amount of fat, oil, salt, etc. The best option if possible is probably to try to learn to cook healthy foods and snacks at home. There are also some good healthy places to eat out but you have to do your research. Try to eat at least some fruits and vegetables every day and have a balanced meal consisting of a variety of food groups. There are many posts on this site that talk about the health benefits of various vegetables and fruits, many which are not found in fast food menus (and when they are are often turned into unhealthy meals by the addition of a lot of fats, sugars, etc.). The food pyramid is excellent for this in figuring out what to eat. Ironically many people eat fast food to save time or money, but in the long run the health risks often lead to greater costs, emotional, financial, and health, than would otherwise have been.

Why your body needs Vitamin A and how to get enough

Your body needs a certain amount of vitamin A because it is used in the formation of healthy hair, skin, and mucous membranes. It is also needed for bone growth, reproductive processes, and for seeing better in dim light. Vitamin A is also needed because it helps when cells differentiate as our bodies grow. Beta carotene in dietary vitamin A is an antioxidant which can help reduce cancer risks as well. All of these reasons are why the fat-soluble vitamin A needs to be a part of a healthy diet.

The state of being vitamin A deficient is known as hypovitaminosis A which can lead to many things including night blindness and unhealthy skin and hair.

So how can you make sure you get an adequate amount of vitamin A in your diet? For one, eat fruits and vegetables as many of them contain the vitamin naturally. They are better to eat raw if possible as this leads to a better retention rate of the vitamin A inside. There are also many foods on the market that are fortified or added with vitamin A. This includes many dairy products like milk and cereals.

There are also many vitamin A supplements available in the form of tablets or capsules that people can take if they don’t get enough of the vitamin in their regular diets. Be careful though as a vitamin A level that is too high can be toxic to the body, so you do not want to overdo it.

Why staying in shape is important

Staying in good physical shape is important to stay healthy and reduce the risks of long-term diseases. Millions of people around the world are obese or overweight and the numbers continue to get worse as sedentary jobs and fast food continue to grow in popularity and easy access. While these convenient options are sometimes unavoidable, it is worth the extra effort to eat healthy and definitely worth the effort to exercise to burn off the extra calories, sugar, etc. that is consumer in these poor diets. While people might make excuses about the time they have (or the lack there of), it is most likely true that in the long run they will be healthier, happier, and possibly even in better financial position if they stay fit. Furthermore, it only takes 15 minutes a day to improve from 0 and that can be found either with 15 minutes less sleep or by cutting out other leisure activities or by incorporating physical workouts with existing activities. That measly 15 minutes might not seem like a lot and it really isn’t, but it can make a big difference in the long run. Walking, jogging, and running are good exercise options, but some people might prefer things they enjoy more and that is really the key- finding something that the people enjoy doing so that it doesn’t make it seem like work or a workout, but just fun. Working out and staying in shape is very important and people need to take their health seriously and set aside the time for these things.

Physical exercise and staying in shape often not only impacts the physical health of a person but also the mental health. Fitter people tend to be more confident in themselves and might be able to concentrate better and generally have better mental health too. Staying in shape is really worth it because if one doesn’t care for themselves, what will they care for? Staying fit is really not awfully hard to do and it is very well worth the time commitment regardless of a person’s life goals.
